Residents did not receive any notice or reason why the doors to Mogalakwena Municipality were closed to the public this morning.
Areas affected include Zebediela, Lebowakgomo, Seshego, Ivy Park and Westernburg.
The Polokwane Municipality has condemned this and has urged motorists to obey and respect instructions by traffic officers.
There was a temporary water disruption in the area due an accident that occurred yesterday.
The race will include a 21km, 10km and 5km run.
Lepelle Northern Water are currently installing a valve at the plant.
With the near constant water problems plaguing the city and the overall scarcity of this resource, many residents are up in arms over what they feel is the municipality wasting water.
High catchment areas including zone 2, 3,5 and 8 have been affected.
The Municipality has urged motorists and businesses to exercise patience as the project will come to an end soon.
The municipality says there is no electricity in the area because of a faulty cable.
Bulk purchases of water and electricity take up 27,68% of the municipality’s operating budget.
