POLOKWANE – As the festive season approaches, Review spoke to Mariza Pelser, Director of The Heart Drive Project who explained that the organization also helps children in foster care as well as grandparents and parents who can not always afford to provide certain basic needs.
“This is a helping hand and support to help people that cannot afford all the basic needs. Everyone has stuff lying around that never gets used or thrown out, but people don’t know where to take or donate it. The Heart Drive acts as a platform for donations and we then find the right people to distribute them to,” explained Pelser.

She explained that without assistance from organizations like Heart Drive, many would be faced with a bleak festive season. For many, their hope lies on the donations that they receive.
Donations in the form of toiletries, clothes, toys and anything that people can think of that will help to make people feel special and make this season more bearable for people that see no joy in this time of year. “For Christmas, we help stock up on non perishable foods for the elderly, poor and especially the children that are at home the whole day and don’t have the luxury of the school’s feeding schemes to feed them as well as clothing. For them, receiving clothes that are not torn or worn out and shoes can sometimes be the biggest gift of all,” she said.
Emphasizing on how the donations that people make, impact the lives of the recipients, she urges that people think of a little child who has the privilege of being spoiled and blessed with a toy that is just for him, specially wrapped. “The toy will eventually break but that act is something that will always and forever stay in that little child’s heart,” she said.
The Heart Drive is doing a pre-loved toys run, where people can donate their pre-loved toys that will be packed in boxes and donated to projects that exist out of daycare, feeding schemes and places of safety.
They also have gift boxes that people can put together for children, teenagers, adults and elderly. People can put anything in the boxes, from toiletries to toys or even sweets. People can contact Mariza Pelser on 0738411715 or whatsapp for any inquiries or help needed in the Heart Drive.
