135 suspects arrested during Lim police operation, issued with fines for liquor and traffic related offenses

LIMPOPO – Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba says he is elated by the arrest of 356 suspects during relentless operations conducted around the province over a 16 day period. The operations were aimed at stabilizing the crime situation in the province.

The operations were conducted between 22 October and 6 November 2018 and suspects were arrested for various offenses, including possession of dangerous weapons, possession of drugs, murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), possession of suspected stolen property and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, among others.

Police spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela says a total of nine firearms of different calibers and 59 rounds of ammunition were seized and of the arrested suspects, 135 were issued with fines for liquor and road traffic related offenses.

In addition to the operations running within the province, operations were also conducted in Gauteng where two suspects were arrested for offenses that occurred in the Limpopo province.

“On Wednesday, 31 October, and operation was conducted in the Gauteng Province to trace wanted suspects. A 41-year-old man was arrested in  Alexandra and was positively linked two rape cases which took place in Motetema in October 2013 and in Senwabarwana in March 2018. In addition, a 29-year-old man was arrested in Ivory Park, Tembisa for a murder that occurred in the Hlogotlou policing area in September 2018,” she explained.

Manamela concluded by confirming that the arrested suspects have already started appearing in different magistrates courts around the province.
