Man (46) sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for raping a mentally challenged girl

POLOKWANE – Police in Limpopo have welcomed the incarceration of Victor Papanyana Mokgesi to an effective 25 years imprisonment without fine, which was handed by the Mokerong Magistrate Court.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the accused raped an 18-year-old mentally challenged girl on 1 November 2016.

“The ordeal happened in Mapela Sandsloot village after the accused lured the victim to the nearby bushes and raped her. After raping her, he offered the victim money to not report the incident to the police. The victim went home and informed her family who immediately reported the matter to the police, resulting in his arrest,” Ngoepe explained.

He concluded by saying that people who continue to perpetrate these types of heinous acts by targeting vulnerable groups of our society, will be dealt with harshly and without compromise.
