Lady Champ is a short film about Julia, a young lady from the rural areas who seeks to pursue a career in the boxing industry. Julia goes on to face various challenges which groom her into becoming a strong and independent woman, from losing her parents at a young age and having to move in with her alcoholic and abusive uncle, Julia seems to have been handed a raw deal.
Idah, who will now be portraying the role of Julia, has made appearances on Generations and Rhythm City.
“I am extremely excited and very overwhelmed, and also a bit nervous about landing the role. As overwhelmed as I am, I am looking forward to the challenge and hope to portray Julia in a way that will change perceptions on gender equality and will lessen the gender inequality gap”.
According to Maxisky Media Founder, Elijah Papole, the film depicts the views of emotionally oppressed women who haven’t been afforded enough opportunities, as opposed to their male counterparts.

This sentiment is believed to be more evident in the rural areas, where women deviate from voicing out their opinions on general issues as they fear being ostracised by the community. “Women can do any work they want to, they are just as capable as men are to achieve whatever they set their minds to. This film basically goes to show and educates the society on equality and respect for everyone in general” explains Elijah.
