Limpopo alleged baby killer out on bail pending SAPS investigation

LIMPOPO – A 35-year-old woman arrested for the murder of her 7-day-old baby appeared before the Magatle Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was granted bail.

She was granted bail of R500 pending police investigation and is set to reappear before the court on 5 September 2017, said Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

LIMPOPO – Police in Magatle outside Lebowakgomo reacted swiftly after receiving an alert about the murder and arrested the woman.

The suspect gave birth to the baby in the Zebediela Hospital and the baby was still under nursing care in the Children’s Unit.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the woman entered the room claiming she wanted to breastfeed the baby.

“The suspect grabbed the baby from the incubator, assaulted the nurse with the baby and struck its head on the floor. The baby died instantly,” he said.

The suspect will appear before the Magatle Magistrates Court today, 3 August, on a charge of murder.

“The motive behind this incident is still unknown,” Ngoepe concluded.
