POLOKWANE – Her latest single Buya features award-winning Soul Kulture and Sondzela, which showcases her vocal abilities and she recently visited the City of Stars to promote her latest singles.

Born into a musical family, Bongi has been singing since childhood and is recording her new 12-track album and is working with award-winning producer with a magic touch, Mojalefa Mjakes Thebe.

Her second single, Sondzela, is getting a lot of airplay and she said she looks forward to recording music videos for her two new singles soon.

The yet-to-be-released album is a fusion of afro soul, pop and Rhythm and Blues (RnB) music and is set to be released at the end of August.

Bongi has worked with the great Vusi Mahlasela and was part of the live CD recording Sing To The People which was recorded at The Lyric Theatre and released in 2013. That year she was also part of a rock band called The Imperials showcasing her versatility as a musician.

In 2014, she entered Idols SA and was the first black female to make it to the final, where she finished as runner up. This led to many awards being bestowed upon her, including the prestigious MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture’s Special Recognition award.

Her hit single, If I Got You, was also released in 2014 and it gained her over 20 000 followers on Facebook and other social networks.

“Singing is all I know and I have no other option but to make it work. I’m doing this for myself, my supportive family and fans and to use the gift God bestowed on me to touch lives. Times and the music industry value chain have changed so my team and I are moving with the times. I’m so happy to be back and doing what I love,” she said.

She added in 2015 she was a lead female singer for the game show, I Love South Africa, on Etv and also performed at the State of the Province Address (Sopa) in Mpumalanga.

“In March of the same year, I was honoured to have been part of the Celebrity Charity Benefit fashion show in Melrose Arch’s High Street.”

Bongi told BONUS she was also part of the Telkom Future Talk where she was one of the key speakers motivating and sharing her musical journey with the youth of Tembisa, which saw her release the single, Chasing My Dreams, for this project.

“If you love something, in my case music being my passion, you fall and learn, dust yourself up and keep it moving. Though it hasn’t been an easy journey since being an Idols SA runner-up in 2014 and not getting a cent for second place, disappointments and rejection have helped me to grow a thick skin.”
