POLOKWANE – Godlive Raphalalani, Puseletso Mehlape, Gangashe Ndivhuwo, Thabang Dalamo and Kgothatso Ntabane took to the streets in the city’s CBD to hand out food to less men, women and children.

“I always see the street kids, some are even younger than us, and it breaks my heart seeing them begging for money as little as R2 to buy bread to eat. I cannot go a whole day without eating something but these children can go a whole day without eating anything. It’s either the dustbin spoiled food or no food at all, that is the choices that they are faced with on a daily basis,” said Kgothatso, president (head boy) of Flora Park Comprehensive High School.

Godlive Raphalalani(20) hands one of the prepared meals to man on the street.

This group of young volunteers say they were taught to always share with those less fortunate than them and encourage others to do the same.

“There is a saying in ‘Sepedi, Ga re meno, are lekane’ which loosely translates to: we come from different backgrounds and we face different challenges in life and we ought not judge other people just because they are different; you do not know how and why they are in that situation,” Kgothatso concludes.
