Explore Polokwane and beyond on Human Right’s Day

The city of stars has many different places to explore and visit which is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family.

POLOKWANE – When you hear the name Polokwane you might think of different things. Things like “The city of Stars”, “shopping” or “bushveld”.

You can start your Polokwane cultural experience at Polokwane Art Museum in the Library Gardens Complex. Here you can experience extensive indoor and outdoor collection of art, sculptures and statues from some of the country’s best artists. Here are more than 800 works.

In the sculpture park, you can see statues that include Boer generals and giraffe. The most remarkable pieces revolve around two different music styles, one that is associated with the townships, namely Kwela and the other from the Voortrekkers, namely boeremusiek.

For nature lovers, there is the Polokwane game Reserve where you can hike, ride a bicycle or horse and have a braai. Here, different wild animals can be seen like Kudu, Nyala, Giraffes, Tsessebe antelope, Zebra, Impala and more than a dozen more mammal species and if you are lucky, Rhinoceros.

These are just one of the many species one can find in the Polokwane Game Reserve.

Wild animals tolerate horse riders closer to them than they do vehicles or people on foot.

Another place to visit is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mapungubwe, 90km away from Polokwane, that was once the capital of a country as large as Swaziland surrounded by over 200 small villages.
