Mighty Quins’ win

Zander Beyleveldt from Noordelikes attempts to break through QBR's defence on his way to the try line.

POLOKWANE – The third round of the Assupol Club Competition for the year saw the teams of Noordelikes Rugby Club Polokwane face off against the Gauteng team of Quins-Bobbies Rugby Club (QBR) in Polokwane, played last weekend.

The tournament was a collaboration between the insurance company and the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU), aimed at developing rugby from amateur club level.

Mynhard Smith and Francois Lottering from Noordelikes defend the ball against the team from QBR.

The teams’ players played hard but at the end of the day the QBR team took the win and will be going on to the semi-final match of the competition.

In Polokwane both the QBR Black and Red teams faced tough opposition from Polokwane in their last pool match of the competition to secure a Gauteng home semi-final to be played next week.

Jason Pretorius from Noordelikes aims for a try during the Assupol Club Tournament against the team of QBR.

Team coach, Nico Luus, told Review that the teams both played a hard yet tough game and that the final scores on the board do not show half of the struggles that were endured on the field.

“We are looking forward to playing our next game in the semi-final but will have to work hard to get it all done and be ready for the coming tough game,” he said.

QBR second team beat Noordelikes second team 91-7.

QBR first team beat Noordelikes first team 62-10.
