LIMPOPO – Three men who were found in possession of a rhino horn, appeared briefly before the Louis Trichardt Magistrates’ Court today (Monday), says the police.

The case against the three men, aged 48, 51 and 34-years-old, who face a charge of illegal possession of protected species, was postponed pending further investigation. The men remain in custody, says Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

The police were following up on a tip-off of suspects attempting to sell rhino horn in the Louis Trichardt area, when they spotted the suspects vehicle along the Vivo road outside Louis Trichardt on Friday at around 14:00.

A chase ensued which led to the arrest of three suspects, two South African brothers and a Zimbabwean national.

A vehicle belonging to one of the brothers was also confiscated.

The three suspects will reappear before the court on 16 January.
