POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality is trying to go green as far as possible and have stopped the giving out of year diaries to save paper and, in the long run, trees.
When asked why the municipality is no longer giving out diaries, Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo said this decision formed part of the municipality’s Smart City Plan for 2030.
Mothapo encouraged all residents to support the municipality in achieving their goal. Stemming from the detailed research conducted on the social, economic, physical and institutional context of Polokwane, this plan set new objectives and strategic interventions for the city which, if implemented timeously and thoroughly, could usher in a new developmental path for the coming 16 years leading up to 2030.
The third pillar of the Smart City Plan stated a smart environment that refers to the efficient use of the surroundings of the city in the urban and non-urban areas.
This is where the municipality is planning to minimise it’s carbon footprint and save paper and trees when it comes to the sending and gathering of information making use of available technology.
